Ontario employers to deal with WSIB costs of hurt agency employees
A brand new Ontario Bill can make employers responsible for the WSIB costs of hurt agency employees employed by them.
Bill 18, which passed first studying on This summer 16, 2014, will amend work Safety and Insurance Act to attribute for an employer the WSIB accident costs associated with a temporary agency worker who’s hurt while employed by them.
Formerly, temporary agencies required to bring a “transfer of costs” application towards the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to achieve the WSIB attribute the accident costs towards the employer rather from the temporary agency. Once Bill 18 passes (the approaching-into-effect date isn’t yet known), that won’t be necessary.
Most employers will be careful concerning the safety of agency employees employed by them. Bill 18 adds yet another incentive.
